The CFID HPDP II project ran through May 2014 – December 2015. Our aim was to reach out to 100 Female Sex Workers (FSW), 100 Long Distant Drivers (LDD), 100 People Living with HIV/AIDS (PLWHA), 270 Sexually Active women and pregnant women through Prevention of Mother to Child Transmission of HIV/AIDS (PMTCT) in Sardauna LGA, Jalingo LGA, Donga LGA and USSA LGA respectively all in Taraba state, Nigeria.

Having the 9090 goals at heart, we intended to contribute our quota to the reduction of the risk of HIV infections in FSW, LDD, provide care and support to PLWHA and aid PMTCT with the primary focus on persons in Taraba state, Nigeria.

We reached out to Female Sex Workers (FSW), Long Distant Drivers (LDD), pregnant women, and women of reproductive age using the Minimum Prevention Package of Intervention (MPPI) in line with the National Prevention Plan and used the Positive Health Dignity and Prevention (PHDP) package to reach people leaving with HIV and AIDS (PLWHA). We provided tapped buckets, towels, soap, and other necessities to PLWHA to help them get and keep clean water to increase sanitation and hygiene practices.

We also carried out different activities which included advocacy, selection and training of community volunteers as peer educators, adherence counselling, and mother support, community outreach, condom messaging, and distribution, HIV Testing and Counseling (HTC), STI screening and management, lectures on Stigma and discrimination, Peer session interaction, community dialogue, and very interactive review sessions.

At the end of the project, our results were outstanding and the percentage of success was very significant. We are proud to have positively impacted the lives of 169 FSW, 158 LDD, 82 PLWHA and 276 women through PMTCT reducing the risk of HIV infections in these people. In addition, we provided HIV counseling and Testing for 2, 341 persons (1, 230 women aged 15-55 years old; 1,111 men/boys to know their HIV status. All persons tested positive to HIV received referrals for uptake of ART services.
