CFID with support from the Pfizer Independent Medical Educational grant, implements the project, titled “Improving migraine disease awareness and access to diagnosis, treatment adherence and care among students, educators, parents and community members in Nigeria.
As part of the intervention, aimed at increasing Migraine awareness and empowering the community, CFID held a townhall meeting on the 25th of June 2024 to mark the Migraine and Headache Awareness Month across its states of intervention. With experts and key stakeholders, including representatives from the state Ministry of Education, Health, state Post-Primary Management Board, National human rights commission, schools management, students, teachers and parents & teachers association (PTA) in attendance, the meeting delved into the impact of migraines and strategies for better management in schools, workplaces and community.
Insightful discussions and outcomes were:
- Overview of the Migraine Disease Awareness Project
- Migraine Epidemiology, Impact and Management by Dr. Mashak, a consultant family physician.
- Migraine Journey: Experience-sharing from some students and teachers
- Panel Discussion: Collaborative Approaches to Migraine Awareness and Supportive Environment
- Policy Commitments
State Post-primary Management Board (PPMB) and Ministry of Education pledged to explore and prioritize health policies to increase migraine awareness and care in schools.
- Inclusion in School Activities
- CFID advocate for integration of migraine education into school programs. Representatives from the state ministry of education and PPMB assured to present the initiative to high authority to ensure migraine education is incorporated into school curriculum or school health clubs.
The townhall meeting was a platform to empower stakeholders and the broader community with knowledge about migraines, advocating for better understanding and support!
